Rathnelly Day

Every other year in June we gather to celebrate the history of Rathnelly Republic with the best neighbourhood street party in Toronto.  The first Rathnelly Day was held in 1967 in honour of Canada's centennial.  The all-day all-family event is not to be missed.

Costume & Cocktail Contests

This year's theme lends well to the 'best costume category.  Those 18 & under should make sure to wear their costumes to breakfast, so they can enter the 'kids' competition. Costume prizes will be awarded for most 'heroic' effort, and for the perfectionists among us, also for the costume with most 'wicked' attention to detail.

Costumes will be judged in three age categories:

  1. Superheroes & Villains under 5

  2. Superheroes & Villains under 12

  3. Superheroes & Villains Age 13 - 18

Each category will be judged based on effort and detail, with top costumes in each age category being recognized.

For the bigger 'kids' (AKA those of us who relish the opportunity to play dress-up), don your costumes for our evening activities and enter the Adult Costume Contest during Cocktail Hour.  We will be judging based on the same parameters as the smaller residents - best effort and greatest attention to detail.

Cocktails submission will also be judged during the community cocktail hour.  Bring your most villainous (potent) or most heroic (virtuous) concoctions out to Hardy's Corner for 5:30 to enter them to be judged.

Cocktails can be entered in one of the following three categories;

  1. The Superbly Powerful Classic Cocktail

  2. The Wickedly Original Cocktail

  3. THe Virtuously Heroic Mocktail

Prizes will be awarded to all winners, along with bragging rights until the next Rathnelly Day.

Welcoming New Neighbours

Rathnelly Day is one of our most special traditions, an opportunity to really get to know your neighbours and build special friendships with those in your community.  But it can be a bit overwhelming for first-time attendees.

Know a new homeowner who has moved onto your street or into the neighbourhood since June 2017?  Why not invite them to join your table for dinner.  They will be forever grateful and you can take pride in knowing you played an important part in making them truly appreciate what an incredible decision they made to buy a house in our neighbourhood and to call the Republic of Rathnelly home.

Parking on Rathnelly on June 15

A friendly reminder to our Rathnelly homeowners that we will once again be blocking off access to the street at 8 AM on Saturday, June 15 and ask that you move your vehicle to one of the side streets (Cottingham, McMaster, Macpherson or Poplar Plains Cresenct) or to the Green P parking lot prior.

Any vehicles left on Rahnelly Avenue on Rathnelly Day will be towed off of the street but we would prefer not to have to inconvenience you or incur that unnecessary cost.

Please note that the streets will be re-opened once the clean-up is complete - typically by 1 AM on Sunday.

A look back at Rathnelly Days from years gone by:

Did you know that 2017 marked the 50th anniversary of the Republic of Rathnelly and thanks to the efforts of over 80 community volunteers, Rathnelly Day 2017 was a milestone celebration!  We saw record resident turnout, record alumni attendance, appearances by all three of our elected officials, and unprecedented media coverage.  And while it was a pricey party (another record broken), it was also our most financially successful - thanks in large part to an incredible raffle and silent auction.  Thanks once again to all the neighbour, local business and local artist donations - you rock!
